Matches in the hot summer months with an east wind
The 5 Basic Products Lisocur+, Miobol, Roni, Stopmite, and Curol provide the well-thought-out protection during flights in the summer heat and are sufficient.
However, in cases of extreme heat and severe drought caused by east wind, you can optionally add the products Cometose and Hemoglobal:
Besides the head and throat, droppings are a very important clinical indicator to assess the health of the pigeon. We have always recommended administering extra Cometose during days of extreme heat. This preparation ensures the retention of an extra supply of water in the intestines through gel formation. Pigeons do not have a bladder as a urine reservoir, but rather a cloaca, in which droppings and urine are mixed. The system is highly refined and helps manage the water supply optimally. Sometimes, an excess is also discharged.
This way, the content of the cloaca can be pushed upward to the large intestine by bowel movements, where water can be reabsorbed into the bloodstream, or with a short movement, the droppings can be pushed downward (outside).
Certain changes in food and water intake, as well as (heat) stress conditions, cause a shift in this balance, whereby watery droppings are mistakenly attributed to an infection.
Many fanciers raise the alarm and choose an antibiotic course in the water, and lo and behold, things improve…
It happens that due to reduced water intake caused by the taste of the dissolved chemical, a correction occurs and the droppings become drier again.
This is, of course, the opposite of what we aim for and can have a detrimental impact on performance.
In hot weather, pigeons need extra energy to keep their body temperature low (air conditioning effect).
Our pigeons are astonishingly strong. Indeed, they live relatively much longer than mammals of the same weight because their metabolism can generate enormous amounts of energy from oil using a lot of oxygen to make flying possible.
In the height of summer when it is hot and the toughest races are scheduled, water and oxygen are crucial, hence the importance of Cometose and Hemoglobal.
Hemoglobal is an underestimated product: it contains a lot of iron that promotes oxygen fixation and is therefore crucial for breathing. (The ingredients of Hemoglobal are also partly present in Miobol)
It is ideal to add both products two to three days before tough races during the evening feeding, with the last administration on the evening before the day of basketing.
